Here are the dishwasher problems we see most often, what usually causes them and how our technicians repair them.
01
Dishwasher not draining / standing water
Common causes: A clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or air gap, a clogged garbage disposal connection, a failed drain pump or a stuck check valve. Bosch dishwashers often show error E24 or E25 for drain problems.
How we fix it: We clear clogs, test the drain pump and restore proper drainage.
02
Dishes not getting clean
Common causes: A clogged filter or spray arms, a failing wash pump motor, low water fill from a bad inlet valve, water that isn't hot enough, or detergent problems.
How we fix it: We clean the wash system, test the pump, inlet valve and heating, and fix the cause.
03
Dishwasher leaking
Common causes: A worn door gasket, cracked spray arm, loose hose connections, a leaking pump seal, an unlevel dishwasher or oversudsing from the wrong detergent.
How we fix it: We find the leak, replace worn seals or parts and level the dishwasher. Bosch error E15 indicates water detected in the base.
04
Dishes not drying
Common causes: A failed heating element, bad high-limit thermostat, faulty vent or fan, or an empty rinse aid dispenser. Many modern dishwashers dry by condensation and rely on rinse aid.
How we fix it: We test the drying system and advise on settings and rinse aid.
05
Dishwasher won't start
Common causes: A faulty door latch or switch, control lock turned on, blown thermal fuse, failed control board, or a power problem at the junction box or outlet.
How we fix it: We test the latch, fuse and controls to get your dishwasher running.
06
Dishwasher not filling with water
Common causes: A closed supply valve, a failed water inlet valve or a stuck float switch.
How we fix it: We check the water supply and replace the inlet valve or float switch.
07
Dishwasher making loud noises
Common causes: Debris in the wash or drain pump, worn pump bearings, or a spray arm hitting dishes or racks.
How we fix it: We remove debris and replace worn pumps or components.
08
Dishwasher door won't latch or falls open
Common causes: A broken door latch, worn door springs or snapped door cables.
How we fix it: We replace latches, springs and cables so the door closes and balances properly.

Remove and rinse the filter at the bottom of the tub regularly.
Run the garbage disposal before starting the dishwasher — they often share a drain.
Make sure the spray arms spin freely and the holes aren't blocked.
Keep the rinse aid dispenser filled for better drying.
Run hot water at the kitchen sink before starting a cycle.
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before working near the dishwasher's electrical connection, and let the heating element cool before reaching into the tub.

Questions & Answers
Dishwasher Repair FAQ
Why is there standing water in the bottom of my dishwasher?
Usually a clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or garbage disposal connection, or a failed drain pump. Start by cleaning the filter; if water still won't drain, the pump or drain line may need repair.
My new garbage disposal was installed and now the dishwasher won't drain. Why?
New garbage disposals come with a knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet. If it wasn't removed during installation, the dishwasher can't drain.
Why are my dishes still wet after the cycle?
Many modern dishwashers use condensation drying and need rinse aid to dry well. If rinse aid doesn't help, the heating element, thermostat or vent fan may have failed.
Why are my dishes coming out dirty or gritty?
Clogged filters or spray arms, low water fill, water that isn't hot enough or a failing wash pump are common causes.
